SOLD Buttons and Blue Thread, W/C 17.5" X 17.5" Marilyn Eger

This is another demo in watercolor for my high school students. Again it was finished in the studio at a later date. It is funny. A few years back I bought these gorgous antique buttons to paint, well, to make a long story short...I lost them in the studio. Every once in a while when I am not looking for them, I will find them...then immediately I forget about them and they are lost again. I guess when the right moment comes they will be found and painted but until then they will stay in never neverland. Jerry and I took the dogs out to the Mackville ranch for a long walk this morning. It was wonderful to see they doggies running through the pasture!!!! To Bid Click Here

SOLD Coral Iris

I just love this Iris. She is a lot of fun to paint but to get that color right in watercolors would take a genius and trust me I am not!!! I still like the painting though. This was started as a demo for my high school art class a few years back and was finished in my studio at home.I think I may be out of my painting slump. I made some progress on some paintings today. It felt really good! Click Here to Bid

SOLD Yellow Iris, watercolor

I used to have a yard full of Irises but we decided to change to a more evergreen yard and now only have a few left. This was started as a demo in watercolor for my high school students and finished in my studio later. I stretched the paper just like you would canvas except the paper was wet when I did the stretching. The paper does not buckle when it is stretched in this fashion. Click here to bid

Peaceful Silver Lake Autumn, W/C 24" X 18" Marilyn Eger

This watercolor is over 20 years old. Hummmmm, older than all of my students. It was done on location in beautiful Silver Lake, Ca. As you all know I am on a mission to clean out my studio. I have torn up many drawings and paintings in the last few monthes. Some are just to good a friends to destroy. Those I will be putting on eBay. I need a clean slate. The easiest way to find my work on eBay is to select the art catagory and then type in Eger. Usually that will pull up a list of everything I have at auction.
I will still have a link here as well.Click Here To Bid

SOLD Jessie,Stunned, 40 minute oil quick study, 11" X 14"

If you want tips on quick studies check out my post yesterday. It may help. Edges are also important. Once the 3 value areas are in and the paint is still wet soften some edges, by wiggling the brush on the edge between the 2 value areas. This is Jessie and he looks like he overheard my high school students talking to their friends and was shocked by the language they use with each other. To see this image larger, click on the image. SOLD Head study 40 minutes

Jean asked me to talk a bit about how I do the quick studies. I tone the canvas ahead of time with a neutral grey or a midtone skin color. I do not start the quick study till the toned canvas is totally dry. I squint a lot!!!! I think mostly in terms of darks, midtones, and lights. I use as large a brush as humanly possible. Only at the end do I shift to a smallish brush. For these I used Liquin as the medium because it drys quickly. I also used Liquin mixed in the underpainting/canvas toning. I do all drawing with a #2 filbert brush using burnt umber.  I used a full color palette for the ones I am posting...however...if you are new at this, to start try using a limited palette of Yellow Ochre, Terra Rosa, Ivory Black and Titanium White. The black is actually very blue...so use it as a blue. Do not add much white to the Terra Rosa (it will make it chalky) instead use Yellow Ochre, only add white when nothing else will work to lighten. These colors work as primarys and can help you paint faster and will always have a color harmony. I hope this helps!!  The portrait here was done with a full palette in 40 minutes. Stop when the timer goes off. Oh, something else that helps ona 40 minute study, is to set the timer for 20 minutes, when it goes off walk away...get a drink of water, walk the dog, come back...look at it, then set the timer for 20 more minutes and do what your eye told you to do when you got back from your very short break!!
