40 Minute man, 5

This is a 40 minute oil quick sketch on a 9" X 12" canvas board. I love this model but he is very difficult. I ran out of time to refine his face and hands. I paint 20 minutes, take a short break then set the timer and go back and use the last 40 minutes.

40 Minute man, 4

Well, this one is a 40 minute quick oil sketch. I worked 20 minutes, took a 10 minute break then the last 20 minutes. I like this one, it is a 9" X 12". I have about 90 sketches to do in this class plus 2 long term paintings. I painted one last night after work. I found my colors are harder to see after dark.

25 minute male, #3

This again is a 25 minute oil sketch not a finished work. I really like the spots of red in it.

25 minute male, #2

Here is the second one. They are actually kind of  fun but you need a clear mind to be successful. The idea that after 25 minutes you must stop is liberating. There is no time for anything to be to precious! Gesture is important and so is value. Squinting helps to simplify the large areas.

25 minute male, #1

This is a quick study done in oil, in 25 minutes. I have about 90 quick studies to do between now and the end of May. Again, these are not finished paintings but quick studies. I am hoping they build my confidence in laying down paint more confidently.

Lantern 2, acrylic

Well, I am only going to post when I have time. Sorry about the glare on this image. I went to an antique store in Reno and they had all these lanterns hanging from the ceiling. I just loved them so I shot some digital images while I was there. I did 3 paintings from the digital images I shot. I started my online painting class Monday, so I will be very busy. The class is called quick studies. I have toned 6 canvas boards and they are drying. All the oil studies are timed. I will post them as I have time. I will start painting tomorrow. By the end of May, I have to have 90 quick studies done and 2 longer paintings done, so if I am not here as much as usual, you will know why!
